1. Notes & Reminders.

New Print Policies

DECF implemented a print quota system beginning Spring 2003.
Everyone has a fixed print quota amount good throughout each
academic year (7/1 - 6/30). You will need to pay (via CARS or
departmental Chart String when you've exceed your print quota.
For more information about print quotas, how to check your quota,
and how to increase your quota, please see
    http://www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/print/

Users will receive warning emails prior to reaching their quota.
Quotas can be added in increments of $3.00. Once you're over
quota, your print jobs will silently fail.

Under the new print policy, the color printer in 5101 Etch is now
available for general use. Printing to the color printer will
count towards your overal print quota.

IMPORTANT: If you want to print to the 5101 Etch printers remotely
(e.g. you're not using any 5101 Etch computers or any DECF
servers), you MUST be logged in to your desktop using the same
    username as your DECF username.

Please remember, the current print quota will be reviewed each
year and adjustments may be made.

New Disk Quota Policies, Spring 2003
During Fall 2002, INBOX quotas and home directory quotas were
combined. You can now be able to have a larger INBOX.

Beginning Spring 2003, there will be a new standard account fee
structure. All users will be able to increase their disk quota in
increments of $14/100MB/year rather than a fixed quota at a fixed
price. You can pay either by CARS, check, or by departmental
    chart strings.

For more information about disk quotas, please see
    http;//www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/quota/

New Modem Account Rates
Due to reduced funding, there is a new rate of $60/year ($5/month)
for dial-up modem accounts. The new rate will apply to everyone
except faculty and staff. Users not wishing to use DECF modem
pool can use the campus HIP or SHIP dial-up.

Online Account Management Tools
You can now manage your account options online at
    https://www.decf.berkeley.edu/acct/

    You can:
    - Add/check/renew disk quotas
    - Add/check print quotas

Beginning Spring 2003, 1171 Etch will be open between 8AM-6PM
without a card key. Users wishing to access 1171 Etch after hours
will still need to get a building card key.

/var/spool/mail/ unavailable
This is a reminder that /var/spool/mail is no longer mounted on
any of the Unix servers. Mail is only retrievable via POP or
IMAP. You must use a mail client such as Pine, Netscape, Outlook,
    Eudora, etc to read email.

Users INBOXes were moved so everyone can have a larger INBOX. It
