The DECF newsletter is published at least once every semester.  These
mailings will highlight major system upgrades, changes, and
announcements.  The newsletter is sent to all DECF users.  You may
receive multiple emails if you have several different accounts with
DECF.  Instructions to unsubscribe are at end of email.

1.  Notes & Reminders.

New email server:
    Please remember that maxwell.berkeley.edu is the new mail server.
    POP and IMAP users should make the switch to maxwell as soon as
    possible.  Response time on maxwell.berkeley.edu, especially for
    newton POP users, will be faster.  Please note, you CANNOT login
    to the new server.  

Scheduled downtime:
    Webmail will be unavailable 4/20/02, 8AM-12PM.
    5101 Etch Windows cluster will be unavailable 4/20/02, 8AM-12PM.
    newton, decf, maxwell unavailable 4/27/02, 8AM-12 PM.

    Actual downtime for each server should be 30 minutes or less.
    We're leaving a window just in case.

2. New & upgraded software on decf.berkeley.edu

The following software is now available.

    + ampl Student Version - 5101 Win2K cluster
    + elm 2.5.5 upgraded from 2.5.2 - newton.berkeley.edu
    + gnuplot - 5101 & 1171 Solaris workstations.
    + jdk 1.4.0 & jdk 1.3.1 - 5101 & 1171 Sun workstations.
    + Mathematica 4.1 (1 license) - 5101 Etch lab.
    + Maple 7.0 - 5101 Sun workstations
    + Scale 4.4 - 5101 Sun workstations
    + MPI 1.2.3 - 5101 Sun workstations (parallel computing)

New PC:
    A new PC (1.6Ghz, 256MB RAM, Zip drive) has been added to
    5101 Etch.  It has the same software as the other PC's.  

Spam filter:
    Spam filter is now available for IMAP users!  Due to university
    policies, this is an "opt-in" service.  For more information, go

Software CD:
    Windows home users with slow connections who do not want to
    download
    software from central campus can now check out our software CD.
    The CD has the following software:
       Acrobat
       Eudora 5.1
       Exceed
       Ghostscript
       Ghostview
       Norton Antivirus
       SSH

Vacatin/Forward:
    You can now change your vacation and forward through the Web!  Log
    in to WebMail at http://webmail.decf.berkeley.edu, click on
    Options->DECF Account Utilities->Set Up Mail Forwarding or
    Vacation Message
