1. Reminders

If you want to send email from off campuse, you can either relay through
your ISP's mail server, or through DECF's mail relay server,
relay.decf.berkeley.edu. Per Berkeley's new Security Policy, by the end
of 2005, email relaying needs to be secure. So everyone will need to move
to the relay server if they want to send mail from off campus. More
information about the required change will be forthcoming.

5101 Etch Lab moved to 1111 Etcheverry
5101 Etch lab is being moved to 1111 Etcheverry. The move should
be complete by 8/31. You will find all the computers and printers
still here. In addition, there will be AirBears access in 1111 Etcheverry.

New Linux compute cluster installed
Over the summer, DECF installed 8 new Linux computer servers that were
donated from Sun. The new servers are Duel-CPU Pentium Xeon, 2.80
GHz, 2GB RAM, with ATI Rage XL Graphics Card. They are available only
by ssh'ing from kepler.berkeley.edu. For more information, please

3. Upcoming changes

Airbears in 1171 Etcheverry
AirBears will be installed in 1171 Etch sometime in September.

1111 Etch CardKey access
DECF is looking into making 1111 Etch a CardKey access only lab.
The lab would still be an open lab Monday-Friday 8AM-6PM. But you
will need to have cardkey access outside normal business hours. This
is to prevent the recent vandalism of our lab computers from occuring
     again.

1171 Etch upgrade
DECF will be upgrading the 1171 Etch lab during Fall 2004 semester.
We'll be switching from the SunRays to Linux workstations. More
information will be forthcoming once the lab is put in.
