1. Notes & Reminders.

New File server
A new file server was added over the summer. Users no longer
have mail server access through unix command line. All
vacation/forward settings must now be done through WebMail.
        http://webmail.decf.berkeley.edu

Duplex Printing
Beginning 10/15/03, duplex printing will be counted as 1.5 pages
        instead of 1 page.

2. System additions & changes

New Linux workstation.
A new Linux workstation has been added to 5101 Etch for testing
before we replace all our Sun workstations. Users are encouraged
to use the workstation and report any problems or missing
software. The login directory will be the same as
kepler.berkeley.edu. (As part of our effort to have one login
    home directory rather than 3).

The workstation is a Pentium 4, 3.06GHz workstation with 512MB
RAM, 250MB Zip drive, CD-RW, and Flat Panel Monitor. The
workstations will offer many programs similar to the ones found on
    our W2K cluster.

All software installed on kepler.berkeley.edu and
decf.berkeley.edu are installed, except for f90, MCNP, PVM, MPI,
and Scale, which will be installed at a later date. Printing in
    CJK is also unavailable.

How it's different from the Sun Workstations.
o View Chinese/Japanese/Korean (CJK) language websites easily.
o Ability to create CJK documents.
o Ability to view and cancel print jobs via GUI interface.
o Ability to burn CDs and save to Zip disk similar to W2K workstations.
    o Easily create/print Screen Captures.
o Compatibility with DECF's digital camera.
o Availability of sound and video tools
