1. Notes & Reminders.
Newton is now a no-login machine.
As we've stated, beginning 10/1/02, newton.berkeley.edu is no
longer a login server. Use kepler.berkeley.edu instead.

/var/spool/mail not mounted on kepler
Beginning 10/1/02, /var/spool/mail is no longer mounted on
kepler.berkeley.edu. This means that you cannot use mail/Mail
to read your email. Use pine instead.

2. Summary of Upgrades/New Services

New spam filter software.
A new server-side spam filter software was installed. For
information on using spam filter, go to
    http://www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/mail/spam.html

You must be using IMAP to read your email.

New outgoing mail relay service.
Beginning 10/15/02, users will be able to use
relay.decf.berkeley.edu as an outgoing mail relay when they're off
campus. For more information, and instructions, see
    http://www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/mail/relay.html

PLEASE NOTE! Some ISPs will force you to use their own outgoing
mail server. You should use your ISP's outgoing mail server
    whenever possible.

Print quota beginning Spring 2003
Given the great number of print outs not being picked up this
semester, beginning Fall 2002, we will be counting pages printed
on the 5101 Etch and 1171 Etch printers. You will not be charged
if you are over your allotted quota this semester. However,
beginning Spring 2003, you will need to pay (via CARS or Chart
string) when you exceed your print quota. For more information
about print quotas, how to check your quota, and how to increase
    your quota, please see http://www.decf.berkeley.edu/help/print/

Color printing available
As part of the print quota system, color printing will be
available to all DECF users, except class accounts, beginning
    Spring 2003.

New standard account fees Spring 2003
Beginning Spring 2003, we will be implementing a new standard
account fee structure. Users will be able to increase their disk
quota in increments of 100MB. More information will be forth-coming.
