1. Notes & Reminders.

New email server:
Please remember that maxwell.berkeley.edu is the new mail server.
POP and IMAP users should make the switch to maxwell as soon as
possible. Response time on maxwell.berkeley.edu, especially for
newton POP users, will be faster.

POP mail support:
DECF is phasing out support for the POP mail protocol. Beginning
September 2001, we no longer distribute instructions for
retrieving email via POP. Any new accounts created after 1/1/01
are expected to use IMAP to retrieve their email (if they're not
using pine or unix mail to read mail). We will continue to
support existing users who use POP.

2. New additions in 5101 Etcheverry

The following software is now available on the Sun Workstations in
5101:

    FEAP 7.4
SSH 1.2.32 (upgraded from ssh 1.2.31)
SSH 3.0.1 (upgraded from ssh 2.4.0)

New PC:
A new PC (933MHz PIII with 256MB RAM) will be added to the NT
cluster by the end of the year. It will have the same software
as the other PC's. In addition, the new PC offers a 250MB Zip
Drive and CD-RW Drive for you to save your data. You will need to
    provide your own zip disk.

3. System upgrades & changes

Changing your password:
To change your password, log into newton.berkeley.edu.
Passwords will be propagated to 5101 workstations
(decf.berkeley.edu & its clients), 1171 Sun Rays, and the mail
server (maxwell.berkeley.edu) within the hour. For detailed
     instructions, see:
     http://decf.berkeley.edu/help/password/unix_password.html

Please remember, you will need to change your Windows NT password
     seperately.

New Sun workstations:
Four new Sun workstations are being added to the 5101 Sun Cluster
(for a total of 18). They are: jive, quickstep, bolero, balboa.
Expect them to be on-line by January 2002.

DECF Windows server migration
Starting November 17, 2001, 5101 Etch PC users will be migrated
to a new server. Accounts will be moved in batches. You will
