      <title>DECF server/clients maintenance 8/15 11PM - 8/16 9AM</title>
       <link>http://www.decf.berkeley.edu/news/090811.html</link>
        <description>

Some DECF servers and clients will be down for maintenance this
weekend, beginning Saturday night 8/15 at 11PM and continuing on till
Sunday 9AM.

To get ready for the upcoming semester, we'll be increasing disk
spaces on all the home directories on the file server. The file
server will be unavailable while backups are made Saturday night.
That takes the longest time. Actual downtime for increasing disk
space should be 10-30 minutes for each home directory. We
anticipate that most services should be up well before 9AM but are
leaving a larger window just in case.

As the file server home directories have to be unmounted on all
machines, we'll take this opportunity to also patch and reboot all
linux clients and some of our servers. Mail and web servers will all
be up, to be patched and rebooted at another time.

Services affected are:
    1171 & 1111 lab machines, Reindeer & Archipelagoes cluster
    kepler
relay.decf (5-10 minutes downtime for patch & reboot)
Anyone who has personal home pages or websites under their home
    directory.

Services NOT affected are:
    Mail services including webmail
Departmental web servers or group websites unless they're linked
to files on the file server

Please log off from kepler or client machines before 11PM on
Saturday. We WILL kick you off if necessary.
