UNIX Documentation

There are three main sources of help/documentation on UNIX commands available to you through the DECF:

  1. UNIX man pages. Most commands on machines running UNIX have documentation in the form of "man" (manual) pages.

To see this information, for example information on the "lpr" command, type: "man lpr" at the prompt. For more information on how to use the "man" command, type "man man".

  2. The following books are available in the back of 1111 Etcheverry Hall:
    • Teach Yourself UNIX in a Week
    • Learning HTML
    • Learning UNIX
    • AutoCAD Manuals
    • Postscript Reference Manual
  3. Basic help can be found in DECF handouts.
