Changing Finger Information

If you wish to change any of the information that appears when you do run the "finger" command on your username, you can do this with the "chfn" command. For example, if your login is "adent" and you type "finger adent" and see:

Login name: adent                       In real life: Arther Dent
Office: 1235 Etch, 2-1234
Directory: /home2/adent                 Shell: /usr/local/bin/tcsh
On since Jun  9 13:46:29 on ttys2 from zippie.me.berkel
No plan.
And you notice that your name is spelled wrong ("Arther" should be "Arthur") then just type "chfn" at the newton prompt. Then, for each suggested value (what's in [ ]'s), enter the correction and hit return, otherwise, if the suggested value is fine, just hit return. Note that the five fields: Name, Office number, Office Phone, and Home Phone are the only you are allowed to modify. Also, please put your correct name in the blank (i.e. only use this command to correct inaccuracies in your finger information, silly or offensive entries will result in the chfn command being disabled on newton) Here is an example of a session:
% chfn <return>
Changing finger information for adent
Name [Arther Dent]: Arthur Dent<return>
Office number [1235 Etch]:<return>
Office Phone [2-1234]:<return>
Home Phone []:<return>
If you wish to give additional information when someone fingers your account, you can also create a file called ".plan" in your home directory, which will then be printed when your login is fingered. Once again, please choose appropriate and informative content.
