Outgoing Mail Relay

General Instructions

  • Outgoing SMTP Server: relay.decf.berkeley.edu
  • Allow Authentication: Checked Note that this is not the same thing as Secure Password authentication.
  • SSL connection for outgoing mail. Use ports 25, if it does not work, try Port 465, or 587. If you use ports other than 25 you may need to change the SSL settings to Required, Alternate Port or specify the ports yourself.

Detailed Instructions

Note: Some ISPs will force you to use their own SMTP server. Known ones include: Earthlink, FreeINet, Mindspring, and Netcom. In general, free ISPs are more likely to require you to use their own SMTP servers.

Sometimes you can get around the port blocking by specifying port 465 or port 587 instead of port 25. However, if that still doesn't work, then you may need to remove blocking on port 25 for your account. For SBC/Yahoo! users, information on doing so is at: http://help.sbcglobal.net/servabuse.php
