Mail Setup Instructions


[General Instructions] [Incoming/Outcoming Setup] [IMAP-SSL] [POP-SSL]

General Instructions:

For Incoming Mail Setup:

  • Make sure you have the minimum required OS for each client.
  • Make sure your current mail protocol is IMAP-SSL. If you are using POP-SSL, check out Eudora for windows, Eudora for Macs, MS Outlook.
  • Match this with the current mail client you are using.
  • Click on the link that results from this match.

For Outgoing Relay Setup:

  • Outgoing SMTP Server: relay.decf.berkeley.edu
  • Allow Authentication: Checked Note that this is not the same thing as Secure Password authentication.
  • SSL connection for outgoing mail: Use Port 25, if it does not work, try Port 465 or 587. If you use ports other than 25 you may need to change the SSL settings to Required, Alternate Port or specify the ports yourself.

Instructions for Incoming Mail Setup and Outgoing Mail Relay Setup

Windows: Windows 2000 or above for Eudora/Outlook
Mac: Mac OS 9 or above for Eudora. (MAC OS 10.3 will not work with POP-SSL)
For those using older versions of Eudora, upgrade to Thunderbird here (Eudora is no longer supported by IST).

IMAP-SSL for Power Users

If you absolutely know what you're doing, here are the new settings.....
Incoming Mail Server: maxwell.berkeley.edu
Location prefix:      mail/  
Username/Login name:  your-DECF-username
Email Address:        your-DECF-username@newton.berkeley.edu or
                      your-DECF-username@me.berkeley.edu
                      your-DECF-username@ce.berkeley.edu
                      your-DECF-username@nuc.berkeley.edu
                      your-DECF-username@ieor.berkeley.edu
Password:             your-DECF-password

Use Secure Socket Connection (SSL), port 993 (alternative port)

Outgoing mail server: relay.decf.berkeley.edu
Allow Authentication: checked
Secure Sockets when Sending: If Available, STARTTLS

POP-SSL for Power Users

If you absolutely know what you're doing, here are the new settings.....
Incoming Mail Server: maxwell.berkeley.edu
Username/Login name:  your-DECF-username
Email Address:        your-DECF-username@newton.berkeley.edu or
                      your-DECF-username@me.berkeley.edu
                      your-DECF-username@ce.berkeley.edu
                      your-DECF-username@nuc.berkeley.edu
                      your-DECF-username@ieor.berkeley.edu
Password:             your-DECF-password

Check for mail every 10 minutes (recommended, minimum 5 min)	    
Use Secure Socket Connection (SSL), port 995 (alternative port)

Outgoing mail server: relay.decf.berkeley.edu
Allow Authentication: checked
Secure Sockets when Sending: If Available, STARTTLS
