1. Do I need to get a cardkey??

Both the 1171 Etch and 1111 Etch are open daily from 8AM-6PM. Anyone who wishes to have access to the labs outside of these hours will need to get cardkey access.

You can apply now and get cardkey access within a few days.

2. What is the cost?

Due to theft issues, we are not going to issue permanent cardkeys. Rather, you will need to renew it every semester/year. The cost is $5/semester.

3. What rooms will I get access to when I get a cardkey?

When you get a cardkey, you will have access to
   a. Etcheverry Hall building door
   b. 1111 Etcheverry
   c. 1171 Etcheverry

4. How do I get one?

Cardkey requests are only done online, via our Account Management Tool.
Only people with a valid CalnetID AND a CARS account or a valid chartstring can apply. If you need access to other rooms in the building, you need to see the key manager in your department.

5. What do I need to get a cardkey?

You will need to have a valid CalnetID which has a 5 digit number at the lower right hand corner in the back.

If you do not have such a number, you need to go to the Cal Photo ID office to get a new card. Without this number, we cannot program your card to have access

6. I got a cardkey xx days ago and it's not working!

Send us an email with the following information:

  1. Your student ID
  2. The numbers at the back of your card.
  3. Date and time you tried to use the cardkey
  4. Room number you tried to use
  5. What happened when you tried to use the cardkey. Did it flash green? red?

7. Agreement

By submitting this request, you're agreeing to the following:

I understand and agree that the cardkey issued upon approval of this request is the property of the Regents of the University of California and

  • that the cardkey will be returned upon request or at the time of separation from UC employement
  • that I will report its loss or theft to the University Police Department and to the issuing department as soon as such loss or theft is noted.
  • that the cardkey is issued for my exclusive use and may not be duplicated, loaned, or used to allow any unauthorized person into a controlled area.
  • that I will not ADMIT PEOPLE INTO THE LABORATORY UNLESS THEY HAVE A CARD-KEY. Failure to do so WILL result in the loss of cardkey access to DECF labs.

    I further understand and agree that my full cooperation will be expected during any investigation concerning a security matter which might have occurred in a controlled facility during a time when my presence in the facility has been recorded by the system.
    Abuse of the cardkey privilege and/or non-compliance with this agreement is a violation of Penal code 469, and may result in the revocation of cardkey use/or disciplinary or criminal action.
