imap and POP service is now up and running.
Mail is going to trickle over the next 12 hours so as not to overwhelm
the mail server. Expect slow response time as this is an old server.
After I've made sure everything is running smoothly, I'll be working
on recovering the old server and reinstalling.
CE Fac/Staff/Students who primarily use webmail, please feel free to
email consult@newton.berkeley.edu so I can migrate you to the the
dedicated CE server. It will improve response time for you and ease
the load on the temporary maxwell server

In the midst of installing new OS on old server and restoring files.
After this, will need to do some testing to make sure everything runs
and then we can turn the server back on.

Horray! I've migrated one server to another server. This will
free up an old server we have for us to restore to. I did not want to
just overwrite the existing server as it's got major disk corruption but
some email are recoverable.

Just waiting for some dumps to be done before we complete the setup
of the first server.

Very close to finishing setting up first server. After that, will start
setting up the new server that we'll migrate mail to.

The new plan of attack is to move mail to a temporary server. Restore
from backup, and then try to restore email that were lost on the mail
server.

Going home after being here 14 hours straight. Will come back tomorrow
morning to fix the problem. Still trying to recover email from disk.

We are still trying to recover files from the disks. In the meantime,
CE users who have migrated to the new mail server had their queued mail
delivered

Backups are not going well. It looks like the disks are really corrupted.
We may have to do a full restore with some loss of email. I will
update the status when I find out.

Backup is going right now. I estimate it will take several hours to
complete. A rebuild of the OS will commence after backups are done.
We have over 100GB to backup, so it will take awhile.

It looks like one main partition of the OS (/usr) is terribly corrupted.
I'm attempting to first make a backup of everything before fixing the
problem.

We're currently running a disk check on three OS partitions. Two have
passed disk check and we're waiting for the last one to finish.

Due to the PPCS electrical shutdown last week, we're experiencing errors
on our mail server and webmail server.
webmail has been rebooted. However, maxwell, our main mail server
is still down. There may be a disk error which may mean a long
down time. People who have migrated to the CE server can still check
their email, however, no new email will be delivered till
maxwell is back up. Everyone else's email is down for now. I will
be updating this page as well as DECF homepage as progress is made.
